Today, Alle Norton—a 25-year-old singer and multi-instrumentalist who makes dark-edged synthpop under the moniker Cellars—releases a brand new album titled Phases, which features production from Ariel Pink and oodles of nostalgia for the weirdo-glam of an era she was born just shy of: the ’80s.

“Cellars is a project inspired by my love for ’80s music, synthesizers, and bedroom pop, conceived in my bedroom in Austin, TX and later relocated to Los Angeles,” Norton explained in an email to The FADER. Phases, she added, is “An emotional catharsis for me: it’s a danceable yet melancholic combination of layered vintage synths and nostalgic sounds with a genuine voice, wrapped within catchy, and modern pop arrangements.”
